Samsung Galaxy Smart Dock Multimedia Hub Review
Samsung Galaxy Note™ II Universal Smart Docking Station with HDMI and USB (White)
Your smartphone just got smarter. Introducing the new Samsung Galaxy Note II Smart Dock, the revolutionary new way to convert your mobile phone into a mobile office.
A Home Theater and a Home Office for Your Home Away From Home
The Galaxy Note II Smart Dock is not your average docking station. With one HDMI port, 3 USB ports, a 3.5mm stereo audio connector and a MicroUSB charging port built in, now you can set up shop on the go. Connect an HD monitor via the HDMI port and share a presentation with a client, or just watch a favorite video in your hotel room.
Tired of typing on a tiny virtual keyboard? With three built-in USB ports you can connect a full-sized keyboard, USB mouse and an external storage drive – all at the same time – and convert your Galaxy in to a mini desktop computer. You can even connect you Samsung Galaxy Note II to your home theater via the 3.5mm stereo connector for an immersive audio experience.
Stay Connected, Even Without Wi-Fi
Laptop computers are great, but relying on a public Wi-Fi connection is a risky proposition when traveling. Take advantage of your smartphone’s wireless data plan and stay connected in any situation, without loss of productivity due to limited screen size or the inability to access files on a remote storage drive. The Samsung Galaxy Note II Smart Dock will even charge your mobile phone while in use. Now that’s smart.

Forget Smart TV Upgraders.. This is all you need*.
By Nabil Abdulla
*Providing you own an S3 or a Note 2 first lol . But seriously this is one amazing little device. I have a 55" LG LCD in my living room and given it was purchased just 2 years ago for a decent amount of money ( about $3000 ) I couldn't justify buying another large 55" smart TV for my main living room ( yet :P ) So to curb my gadget gremlins I purchased an LG Smart TV upgrader for kicks. It did the job for a while but I always hated how slow it was . Then LG came out with a newer model , the ST600 which was a bit better but browsing without a keyboard isn't the same. Fast forward to when the Note 2 came out and we saw rumors of this device. I couldn't wait to try it out. What set it apart for me from the regular USB host dongles was the fact that you get a HDMI port out + power + 3 USB connectors. So you hook up a usb keyboard/mouse combo and you have two more ports to go. The minute you connect your phone your TV becomes what smart tvs claim to be actually smart !.
Besides browsing / media streaming the other reason I wanted this so bad was to hook up a PS3 controller and game on my big screen. Forget about buying a dedicated Android console or those cheapo android TV boxes your phone is all you need. Did I mention that your phone charges during all this fun :) .
A couple of things that you would need to know :
1- Display is mirrored , so the default display would be portrait given how the phone will sit on the dock. This can easily be fixed by forcing orientation via an app. You can easily find some free ones on the Playstore.
2- Skype doesn't play nice . I thought it would be wicked to use Skype too this way but the orientation isn't right . Will update if I figure it out .
3-It doesn't work well if you have a case on your phone ( other than the official Samsung one I mean ) . I have a Seidio for my note and while it does charge and the dock recognizes it , it doesn't connect via HDMI. Take the case off and its all fine.
Other than the above , its perfect :) and highly recommended.

Much more than a simple phone charger
By joseph johnson
After reading a few things about this dock I decided to pick it up since it can mirror your phones display and you can hook up a mouse and keyboard. It works great surfing the web and editing documents, almost as good as a desktop for certain things. You can also hook up a usb controller to play games (particularly old emulated SNES and Playstation 1 games). It works as advertised and is worth the cost if you want to get a lot more out of your Note 2.

samsung galaxy smart dock multimedia hub

I did extensive research before buying this product and almost got discouraged by doing so mostly because the majority of people writing negative reviews are not competent enough in order to figure out why certain features of this device did not work for them. So let's start.
This device will work with Samsung Galaxy s3, s4, and Samsung Galaxy Note 2 for sure. It may work with other models from the Galaxy family but I can't say for fact that it will.
I bought mine pretty much to use my phone (SG3) as a substitute for my laptop which broke.
Straight out of the box it did everything I expected it to do. Hooking it up to my HD TV was a childs play as well as to a wireless mouse and a keyboard. In all fairness I must say that it took me a while to get the sound to work through the TV speakers. While I was getting a nice picture I couldn't get any sound. The fix, as usually, was fairly sime and had nothing to do with the dock itself but rather with the settings on my phone. So if you find yourself in the same situation like me this is what you need to do:
Open system settings andscroll down to accessories. Here you'll see the folowing options:
Dock sound
Audio output mode
Desk home screen display
Audio output (under HDMI)
Now in order to be able to hear sound through your TV speakers make sure that the Audio output mode box is UNCHECKED and that's it. Now you have sound playing through your tv.
Next thing some people have complained about is the unability to see your phone screen in landscape mode on the TV because when it is conected to the doc the phone always stays in picture screen orientation. Some people have gone as far as suggesting to simply put the dock and the phone on its side hence forcing the phone screen in to a landscape mode. While on theory this idia will work, you are risking to disrupt the rather delicate conection between the dock and the phone. There are two much better and easier solutions. The first one is to simply plug in a mouse in to one of the USB ports on the doc and the moment your phone recognizes it, it'll automatically go in to landscape mode. I actually discovered this by accident since initially I was using solution number two. There are tons of free apps on the play store that will give you the ability to force your screen orientation to whatever you want regardless of the position of your phone. If you prefer not to use a mouse while using your Samsung Galaxy on a big screen (even though I don't know why wouldn't you) just install one of those apps and you are good to go.
To conclude I want to say that while $99 or whatever is a bit on the high side, I think it's worth it because it turns your phone in to so much more. So I hope this has been helpful to people who are still trying to decide if they want one or not and to those of you who have not been able to figure out the things above.
Cheers!
