No case no problem the middle insert is included that fits your phone perfectly. To place your phone into dock mode turn the switch on the back towards the speaker. Samsung clock widget will pop up. You can connect the dock to an external speaker system using an aux audio cable. You will need to go to the phone settings then accessory then check speaker out in dock mode. Turn your phone volume up to the max setting and your speaker will control the volume. Make sure on the back of the cradle the switch is towards the speaker icon. Data cable is for connecting to the computer for syncing. The cable will also charge like standard cables in the market. If you want to sync you need to be out of dock mode by toggling the switch on the back of the cradle to the sync icon. The charging only cable uses new technology built in the Samsung phones. Basically it will charge your phone 30% faster than normal cables. This cable you cannot sync and is only built for charging. NOTE: A case thicker than 1mm may not fit. 5Surprisingly good!

I was very skeptical, but was pleasantly surprised!

You get the dock, a power adapter and 2 USB cables. One of the USB cables is used with the power adapter and the other is if you prefer to connect it to your computer instead. There is a difference.

The audio out port (aux) works! To get this working, get your phone and go to settings > My Device > Accessory and make sure that "audio output mode" is checked. This didn't work for me at first. To get it working I unchecked all three of the dock settings in there and re-checked them.

Another surprise is that the company's support is very responsive. When I had my aux problem, I emailed them and they responded a half hour later. How often do you see that?

5Fits the Seidio Surface Case

I contacted RND before buying this to find out if the dock is sized to accept the Galaxy S4 in a Seidio Surface case. The friendly RND representative couldn't tell me for sure, but he said they would be happy to take the dock back if it didn't fit.

I didn't have to send it back, because the phone does indeed fit into the dock with the Seidio Surface case.

The only thing that is a little annoying is that I can't easily get the phone out with just one hand. Maybe that'll still change after a bit, but I guess that's what you get with a sturdy product like the RND Dock.

The manufacturing is solid, and the box included both a micro-USB to USB data cable and a special charging cable, along with a wall plug. Thank you!

5Bonus feature - automatically activates dock mode

This thing actually activates "dock" mode on the phone automatically. I tried 3 other docks and none of them did that including several EZO docks. Just set the phone on the dock and the calendar comes up and gives you the choice of music, Alarm, Gallery or Internet.

I did a bit of research and apparently the dock has to have a resistor built in between pins 4 and 5 on the USB plug for this to work.

You will need a slim case though if you want to use the dock with a case (and the Slim Armor case will not work).
